Brief Description
Honduras takes great pride in its indigenous history. The country's currency -- the Lempira -- is named after the chief of the Lencas, who led 30,000 Indians against the Spanish and repeatedly repulsed their invasions. Sadly, Lempira was betrayed, and assassinated during peace talks in 1536.

Tegucigalpa the capital of Honduras is situated in a bowl-shaped valley nearly 1000m (3280ft) above sea level. The name Tegucigalpa means 'Silver Hill' in local dialect.
